Gilyan is interested in the world that humankind refers to as ‘nature’ or ‘wildlife’. The astonishing formation and construction of a nest; the absent presence of the creatures that built and occupied the structure is recorded in a way that acknowledges the force of nature.

Currently Gilyan uses a monochrome painting technique where pigment is applied to a primed surface and then removed in varying degrees to achieve light and detail.
This collection of work has involved looking and looking again at what might be present from the perspective of another kindred being.

Having regard and mutual respect for all creatures who participate in the way of the world enables humankind to view nature, not as a background but as a dynamic and vibrant force connecting us all.
